Amai Gosa (year 1 unit3)

To evoke the traditional and myth that we have forgotten. I choose the resources from korea traditional shamanism performance which is usually for connection to the god. For example, my family is very stuck into korea traditional which is called ‘Jesa’. This virtue is preparing food for our ancestors and wishing to take care us ( who is offspring of ancestors.) However, recent 10 years there were different claim about this culture and people starts to deny to have this culture. This is because in ‘Jesa’ should on going with gender discrimination and age hierarchy. Some family tried to change ‘Jesa’ more likely modernism but most of traditional culture is under the oldest in family so this is very obvious and very hard to transformed it.

So this project I want to have a performance to recap and  bring nostalgia about out forgotten shaman culture that everyone has or have heard at once from their family. I know a lot of culture is disappearing because of not fit into today’s social norm or rights. I do not agree that even though we have to carry on out old culture. However, there must be something at least one that we can learn or inspired by them. Korean traditional service culture has rooted women’s right discriminations. As a young, woman, who loves Japanese culture leads this male dominated culture performance is huge meaning to me. (Because of historical issue, lots of old male groups just hates everything from Japan.) It could be one outlet to against unfair culture and at the same time embrace the beauty of what I got it from my country.
